About
We’ve written these pieces to move you “away from the grind” — into the mountains & canyons, forests & deserts, into the wild that we love.
I’m a full time counselor and a part time tramp, working and walking from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Most of these entries were originally published in the Cheyenne Tribune Eagle, our fair city’s daily news, so you’ll find the largest part of the hikes within 100 miles of Cheyenne. But you may also have logged into trips into the Tetons, Grand Canyon, North Cascades, Guadalupe Mountains and other wonders. My adult kids, Rose, Ryan and Heather, have contributed a little writing and some fine photos as well.
Should you take our encouragement and venture into some of these places, we know you’ll love them, too, and loving them, help to keep them wild for another generation.
As dear John Muir wrote,
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”
